CYPRUS
Cyprus (Greek: ??p???, Kępros; Turkish: Kibris) is a Eurasian island in the eastern part of the Mediterranean Sea south of the Anatolian peninsula (Asia Minor) or modern-day Turkey. Cyprus is the third largest island in the Mediterranean. The northern area has been occupied by Turkey since it invaded in 1974 and is called the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus but is officially recognized only by Turkey. The United Nations-controlled Green Line separates the Turkey occupied areas from the rest of the island and there are two British Base Areas. Cyprus has been a member state of the European Union since May 1, 2004.
